Figuring out what the future holds and returning to the farm…

I’ve been offline for a couple of weeks having been travelling to Geneva, Switzerland and Burgundy, France – a spectacular couple of weeks although returning home today was just as spectacular given all we have to come home to in the vegetable patch – we were a little nervous as to whether the pumpkins would have gotten so big that they wouldn’t let us in the front gate – thankfully the front gate was accessible but the pumpkins and the melons are both trying very hard to oust all the other veggies from the patch.  Photos below of some of our veggies – the corn is almost twice my height in places (I’m not sure it’s supposed to be!) and the pumpkins are vying for the ground I’ve bequeathed to the brussel sprouts, broccoli, cauliflower & cabbage – it must be what it’s like to have children ‘no – this is your area – just stay there and play nice!’

Just a handful of the cucumbers waiting for us...

Round and Yellow courgettes - many more to harvest - what to do!

Carrots - a few even peeking out from the ground

As for our travels – Geneva……what a spectacular place – absolutely beautiful and it won’t surprise anyone to know that everything ran seamlessly – one might say like clockwork!  The public transport system is brilliant – when the schedule says that a tram will arrive every 7 minutes from 7:03am – sure enough you can set your watch by it – incredible!  The only thing not to embrace too heartily about Geneva is that it is probably the most phenomenally expensive place I have ever visited!  But that aside, we both thought it was beautiful, friendly and efficient and do think we can  be quite comfortable there when I start my new job in just a month’s time.  Some photos below.

Some very good friends from Cayman arrived in Geneva on our last night and then we all drove to Burgundy together – having never been there, we were very much looking forward to exploring another part of France – sadly there wasn't much use for the pool that came with the farmhouse we’d rented given we didn’t see much of the sun while we were there (except for the last 2 days) but did have a lovely time regardless and managed to explore some of the surrounding areas and of course try a little of the wine the area is famous for!

Let me take a 'selfie'! :)

Tony and I went for a drive this morning and took this photo of a field of sunflowers – they’re all out and the area does look so lovely – we then returned home for lunch of chilled cucumber soup (we harvested 10 cucumbers on our return yesterday so need to become very fond of recipes with cucumbers!) before Tony got on the tractor to mow the fields and I got into the veggie patch for some weeding – there’s weeks worth of work so I shall certainly be busy over the coming days!

We have friends arriving in their camper van today so hopefully will have more tales of fun and frolics with some recipes thrown in during the coming week – in the meantime just to say that we hope this finds everyone well and look forward to our continued work on the property so we can welcome more of you here rather more comfortably than we can do at the moment!
