A sad day on the farm....

Today is a very sad day - after caring for the bunny for only a couple of nights, he’s no longer with us.  Seemingly he went quietly during the night - we’ve no idea why but at such a young age I guess they’re just ridiculously fragile and so we simply have to believe that we did the best we could.  Mel had literally spent hours checking the internet for what to do to ensure survival and between us we really felt we were making progress with the syringe - from having to literally force his mouth open to feed him, he was finally taking it on his own and seemed to be getting quite lively.
Both Mel and I have taken the loss quite badly and the better part of the morning has been spent in tears - we’re both very aware that this is part of farm life but as we felt we were only pretending to farm at this stage of the game we hoped we might be spared this aspect of farm life until perhaps we were closer to being real farmers.
The boys being far more practical had predicted this as a possible outcome and so had kept their distance from our new friend.  As a result, they’ve kindly offered to dig a hole so that we can lay him to rest comfortably.
We just have to hope that he had a happy last couple of days and also hope that should we be presented with a similar situation in future we can put our new found knowledge and experience to good use.
